Hey 👋🏾 Hope all is well in your world. The month of love and melanin is drawing to an end. Don’t believe for a minute that once the shortest month of the year concludes, that those things are absent.
Wordplay is a beautiful art. There are a number of hands that go into presenting a admirable picture at times and the amazing Keondria F. , better known as Franny, is a mandatory piece to completing a book... She is an editor of literature that spends a large amount of time assisting in the production of urban fiction. In an expanding field, she has made herself a monumental player and owns her own company. I’m grateful she took the time to answer a few questions and let us know how we can support.
How long have you shared your art with the world and how did you start?
I've been a literary editor for about four years now. My company was initially named Enhance Editing, but in 2018, is when I officially started Assembly Literary Services. I got started after being a test reader for multiple authors. I've always had an affinity for reading and comprehension ever since I learned how to read. The way the English language can be manipulated in various ways, fascinated me when I started to pay attention to the books I read as I got older. When I discovered African American fiction and poetry, I was excited because I saw people like me, crafting amazing stories that sometimes held a deep meaning and/or entertained and allowed me to escape for a moment. I find joy in assisting Black authors with bringing their ideas to life; helping them effectively communicate their authentic feelings is euphoric. No one story is the same, and that's definitely a reason I love my career.
What or who is your biggest inspiration?
My inspiration is a mixture of different things. First and foremost, my two daughters, Aubrielle and Kairynn. I smile just thinking about how I wake up daily with a purpose to make them proud. I get to share my love for reading with them and we use it to bond. My clients challenge me to be the best editor I can be. Their creativity is endless and I'm honored to be trusted with their art. Some of them have been with me since the beginning and I'm grateful for growth.
What do you want to leave behind?
I want to leave behind a literary legacy. I want to help spread the importance of literacy in my community. I want to be able to leave a mark on the literary world. I want them to know that Franny took this as seriously as Sidney loved Hip-Hop in Brown Sugar. I have faith my love for literature will manifest into various avenues not yet known.
