Hey 👋🏾 Hope all is well in your world. It has been my pleasure to present you guys with some pretty remarkable individuals this month. Today won’t be any different as I get to highlight a beautiful and talented queen by the name of Nakia S. Art transcends through many mediums. She has taken handling crowns and made it an art. That was sort of a little word play to connect that she is a talented hairstylist, with a specialty in loc care and repair. We will not ease over how natural hair has to be handled with a special type of finesse to prompt growth and maintain integrity; and she does that. Well. Coloring and styling also is a gift she possesses and executes immaculately. Im grateful she took the time to answer a few questions about her special type of art and how we can support her.
How long have you shared your art with the world and how did you start?
I have been an official Loctician for about 3 1/2 years now. My cousin is who made start doing Locs/ Dreadlocks. I started his hair about 7 years ago and realized that this is what I wanted to specialize in.

What or who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration .. honestly all of the stylists who came before me and who are still doing their thing now. Their work is inspiration. It’s honestly art. Every head that they do are masterpieces. Kindra(Lafayette) Pstyles(Baltimore) and there’s so many more.
What would you like to leave behind?
My goal is to leave behind a legacy for my daughter. I’m getting it out of the mud now So she doesn’t have to. I want people to look at my life and see how far I’ve came from where I was just Last Year. Manifestation & prayer is real.

What, if any, advice would you give to someone that is looking to grow within your field?
My advice is DO NOT GIVE UP!!! No matter what anyone says. You can do this. You are talented. Believe in yourself. Stay humble. Never let anyone steer you away from your dreams and goals. Self affirmation is key. Pray daily.
