HerStory as told by VeeMarie

Hey 👋🏾. Hope all is well in your world. Today I have the pleasure of presenting you with another amazing light in this world. A poetess by the name of LaVantria A.. You probably would be inclined to find her work under the pseudo name “Vee Marie”. This phenomenal woman (see what I did there) not only finesses words, but takes to the streets in support of our civil rights and is a leader in the community. Before the pandemic you could catch a lovely vibe at one of her poetry events, that were like no other. In the current state of the world you may get an event sparingly, but online may be the best way to enjoy some poetry. Now for the first time in blog existence, someone has given us a piece of their work. Vee has not only answered a few questions for us, but has included 2 new poems as further insight into who she is and how we can support.

❤️Love peace Poem ☮️

You take my Breath away , sometimes I forget to ask for it back ... You Make my Heart skip a couple of beats when I see your face .

It was your presence that captivated me when you walk in the room ... Felt like I was held Hostage

for the first time... I couldn’t speak ,

I became speechless ,

just by looking at you.

I became Deaf cause everything around went silent ... I’m not going to say

I went BLIND because all I saw was you ...

IT was your smile that sent fireworks through my Soul ... “ I was lit”

JULY was no where near. 💋 THANK YOU .

#BlackLove🌎🌻👑🙏🏾🖤

How long have you shared your art with the world and how did you start?

I have been sharing my writing art with the world since my 3rd grade year in primary school, I got into erotic poetry in highschool . When I began dealing with anxiety and depression is when I really started putting my pen to work to control my thoughts . I started by entering a contest in school and I went from there.

What or who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspirations would have to be Zhane, Ms. Badu , Floetry , and my auntie Jill Scott of course.

What changes are you making during this trying time?

I started leaving behind unsupportive People. Those that always tend to have a excuse on why they couldn’t support you, but have no problem with supporting others .

What is it that the general public can do to support you?

They can support me by following me on social media platforms. Veemarie_thepoet on Instagram also Facebook, Veemarie . I have a clubhouse as well Veemariethepoet, tune into different real life situations and topics. My business name is Poetic Purposes llc and it can be followed on instagram @PoeticPurposesllc . Come check out the local events I put together here in Lafayette. Basically just come vibe out with me and others .

What, if any, advice would you give to someone that is looking to grow within your field?

My advice would have to be never give up, the longer you procrastinate, things will not get done; start now.

Poem 2. “ I wasn’t ready “

" I wasn't ready "

I do ,

but deep inside I knew

I wasn't ready ,

I wasn't ready because

I was still in love with my ex .. I wasn't ready for what was next for me.. Late night cries

reminiscing about how

My ex use to hold me and shower me with real love ,

and not material things .

I wasn't ready ... For this new life ,

Being with someone I didn't love

I fell in love with the wrong things .

I fell in love with his money ,

I fell in love with the fancy cars ,

I fell in love with this house because It wasn't a home with me in it ... I wasn't ready .... But I married him anyway .. That's so selfish of me

My ex knew I wasn't ready

And that's what hurt him The most

I left him because he was "BROKE"

But I loved him ... Now I'm faking to be happy

When I'm not in love ..

When I could've waited for him to get on his feet and still be happy in love .. I wasn't ready to marry this man !! My knees buckle when this stranger said "you may kiss the bride "

I wasn't ready

I wasn't ready

I wasn't ready

To live this fake fairy tail life ... #poetryislife📓✏️
