HIStory as told by DJ Clueless

Hey 👋🏾 Hope all is well in your world. One more day left in February and we are heading into the month of springtime. Less cold weather and more new life sounds like a nice change of scenery to me. Hopefully you are looking ahead towards the earth waking up and a lil more sun shining down. I want to take the time to continue to highlight black excellence and talent here. Today I have the opportunity to present you guys with an innovative and creative disk jockey named Jeremy D., who goes by DJ Clueless when behind the turntables. We have been friends for well over a decade and it's a treat to be able to work together professionally again. I appreciate that he took the time to answer a few questions about his career and what motivates him. Check out the answers below ⬇️

How long have you shared your art with the world and how did you start?

Officially I have been DJ-ing since 2011. As a child I always had an interest in music. Growing up I paid attention to DJs like DJ Screw and Michael 5000 Watts and the creation of what we know now as “screwed and chopped” music. Those were the 1st DJs that I knew. I thought that was what DJs did so I was convinced I wanted to be one. I began screwing and chopping music and making my own “screw tapes” around the age of 8 years old. At 1st I had no idea what I was doing and my late cousin being funny said “they’re gonna’ call you DJ Clueless” and the rest is history.

What or who is your biggest inspiration?

Inspiration is a cool thing because it can grow, it can die,it can change, it’s just completely up to you. Any one who has made the conscious decision to hone in on their specific craft can attest, inspiration can come from anything that you would like . It’s simply up to you to focus and bring that inspiration out. When I started DJ-ing I was inspired by the music greats and wanted to use the turntables as my outlet(still part of my inspiration) Then I wanted to get rich from it. I wanted to be the DJ Khalid’s and the DJ Mustard’s etc..Then my inspiration became the joy I brought to people every time I touched the 1s and 2s. I have a son now who will be 1 in March and he plays a large part in my inspiration. I’m now inspired to teach him to chase his goals and dreams as well, to teach him that anything is achievable with the right amount of dedication. Never be afraid to find new inspiration.

What do you want to leave behind?

I want to leave behind any that is not of God and anything that does not help me win. Rather that is relationships, bad habits, etc. I want to spread my gift with the world and anything standing in the way is not something that I need to bring along my journey.

What is it that the general public can do to support you?

I’m the program director of a live audience podcast show in Houston called “Teddi Tuesday Live Podcast Show”. We are a live podcast show that focuses on sports, business and community. Every other Tuesday we produce a show like no other. We bring independent artist, comedians, vendors, entrepreneurs, public figures and even pro athletes from near and far together for our live show. March the 14th we actually have special guest “Lil Boosie” on the show for a live interview at the Rise Rooftop in Houston. Please keep up to date with us on Instagram @teddituesdaypod for all show information and our foundation @teddituesdayfoundation for all of our community events. The next time you need a DJ for your event don’t hesitate to contact me on Instagram @thedjclueless .

What, if any, advice would you give to someone that is looking to grow within your field?

The best advice I could give to someone looking to grow in my field is 1:stay motivated- trust me so many things around you are going to tell you to give up, or just try something different, or convince you that doing something else would be easier. Everything has hardship. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. 2:Give yourself grace. You are going to fail but dust off and try again and this time try smarter. Lastly get yourself a team of like-minded individuals and y’all work towards a common goal. If you don’t think you need a team you are not thinking big enough. Build with each other, inspire each other to be better to be great!

This was a genuine pleasure to sit and write for me. I hope that anyone reading would take the time to tap a few of the direct links above and look into a few of the previously mentioned ventures. Grateful to Jeremy for being a part of this segment. Hope you all enjoyed this year's line up of melanin serial entrepreneurs and creators. Happy Black History month as we continue to lay the foundation of history books now. May the love follow you into tomorrow and beyond just like the black excellence. 💚
