Hey 👋🏾 Hope all is well in your world. Welcome to a new year and hopefully some better things. If you happen to be someone that flows effortlessly into the next phase or a person that meticulously writes down projects and goals, it doesn’t matter. We are in 2024! Let us all look at these next 11 months with optimism. Time is forever moving.
I tend to be a member of the planning committee. When I say that, it just means that to-do lists generally fill almost every planner and tablet I own. This year started different for me simply because it was filled with grief. My mother was laid to rest 3 days before Christmas, and to date I still find myself picking up the pieces of myself. So as of the beginning of February, jI have still been trying to catch my footing in so much I normally do. 😞 I won’t dwell on that particular subject in this post, just wanted to give some background insight into where I have been mentally as of these last few weeks. Also as a slight excuse as to why this post is coming in February and not in January. Life has been lifing for me, and I am only human. Hoping to propel myself into a better state of mind not only this season but this new year.

The new year in Louisiana doesn’t really mark the beginning of diet plans and gym trips for most(even though a lot of us say otherwise). It’s our carnival season, better know as Mardi Gras. In South Louisiana balls, festivals, and parades are kicking off for us here and it’s a time we wait for right along with the crawfish waking on up. Now unfortunately this year the yield is very low, prices are high, and let me telllllll you the people are definitely feeling various emotions about it. I no longer partake in consumption of the mudbugs, but I feel my people hurting. Ughhhh. So sorry yall. 😭 It’s just going to be different this year. Now once we move past the changes in the crawfish patterns and the Mardi Gras Associations, we find a lovely culture that’s still going to thrive regardless. So “laissez le bon temps rouler” translation let the good time roll! For a full list of parades in Lafayette and the surrounding areas hit the following link https://www.lafayettetravel.com/events/annual-events-festivals/mardi-gras/ , it’s an amazing resource.
In this moment I can announce some other amazing things going on in Lafayette right along with the other normal festivities, and these include me. PARC Village is a collective space that supplies resources for professional, emerging, and amateur artist empowering them to magnify, exercise, and present their artistic works. I have the pleasure of becoming one of the artists to show their works in the gallery and I am so extremely excited. There will be two opportunities to view the exhibition in a social setting. The first is at a free event named “Art After 5” and this particular session will be with Fantasia Cormier 🥹; February 9th at 7pm -9pm. The second time one could observe the exhibition would be at a closed door viewing where ill be unveiling the final piece dedicated to my late mother. I poured my all into these particular pieces no to mention they literally helped me process such painful feelings. I’m so grateful for the opportunity and if your eyes are reading these words I hope to see you at one of the showings. Below I have included additional links
There tends to be awesome events going on at PARC Village and checking the website provided is the best way to stay informed. https://www.parcvillagela.com/events

While we are on the subject of art, I can go ahead and let another personal achievement flag fly and tell you guys that I painted a float all by myself!
Last year, I wrapped up Mardi Gras season painting floats for the first time with my artistic partner and mentor; this year I was able to tackle a job alone. Please hit the link below, to not only get a little reminder of the huge initial float project me and my partner Ariel decided to tackle (so many changes since the last time), but also to get some great knowledge on the origins of Fat Tuesday and Valentines Day, which is right around the corner. Please ignore the schedules and parade routes, I’ve posted up to date resources above.
Well as we jump into the month of Black History, Love, and Mardi Gras we annually highlight black business owners and boss babes! If you or someone you know is interested in being featured on the site please email me at fancysoninfo@gmail.com. Sending you and yours nothing but well wishes, until next time stay fancy.
