Lover’s Lane: Kim & Jay

Hey 👋🏾 Hope all is well in your world. Let the love continue to overflow this month as I provide you with insight on another inspirational couple. I had previously been sharing predominantly creatives in this segment but their jobs are mandatory and appreciated. The the heavy load of protecting and serving the community when they clock-in may be trying at times. It’s amazing that they are able to balance a family life and marriage. I have the pleasure of presenting a duo unlike any other, Jacob and Kim S. My super-woman like friend took the time to answer a few questions reflecting their romance and I am grateful.

What’s your love story? Where did it begin?

Jacob and I originally met in I think 2011 at the St. Martinville parade. We became friends, but then discontinued that friendship due to him getting in back into a relationship. About 2 years later I subtweeted him, screenshotted the tweet and sent it to the number I still had saved for him, he replied and that's where it all started. Fast track a few years and here we are, married with kids.

What are your individual careers and how do you balance romanticism?

We are both Sheriff's deputies in different departments. It has been hard finding a balance between romance and our work. We work crazy hours, holidays & opposite shifts. It's also difficult as a woman to turn my feminism on after having a hard exterior in uniform. We're working on balance.

What are the biggest lessons that you take away from each other?

Biggest lesson I have learned from him is to not be mediocre in anything. He pushes me to be want to be better even though it's not the easiest. He's also taught me to forgive, it has always been something I struggled with even with people I love the most.
