An April of Festivities

Hey 👋🏾 Hope all is well in your world. As we settle in on this beautiful spring weather for a few more weeks, things around us are changing. With any luck, we are all adjusting and growing as time speeds on by. Running into the summer full speed at this point, I can hear the sound of bored children and overwhelmed households already. Schools are about to be released for breaks and everyone will be looking for activities; allow me to assist in informing you of a few things to look into for everyone.

Another month in Lafayette, La. has left me with more than a few memories surrounding annual events and some amazing individuals. Getting dressed to step out comfortably is top tier for me, but sometimes getting to the destination and mingling takes the joy out of the actual experience. I really didn’t have the issue of feeling awkward in any of the spaces visited this month. The people were welcoming, and my actual clients who asked me to accompany them to each event were so awesome. I had the pleasure of being invited to the annual Southern Tea Awards on April 16th. This year marked 4 years of it being hosted in Lafayette. It’s a peer nominated award show that highlights and uplifts local talent and entrepreneurs. I surely enjoyed the atmosphere, celebrating peers, and learning about individuals I would have normally not encountered. My client of more than a few years, who is a super talented artist and business owner had me right by her side on the red carpet and even gave me a super lovely shoutout in recognition of my contributions to the total look while on stage presenting an award. I surely appreciate Bella getting me out of the factory. I have included a few visuals from that night below. I put together both looks; attire and makeup.

Exactly a week later, I was the date of another client to an annual beautillion ball hosted by the Lafayette alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta on April 23rd. So a few people reading may not know exactly what a beautillion is, so I’ll take a moment to elaborate a bit. The event is a formal ball, like a cotillion or debutante, that is a right of passage that formally presents young men to society as adults while highlighting their accomplishments. I’m unsure of exactly how long this particular event has been in rotation in the area but, its been well over a decade. Witnessing what is the next generation of young men being showered with love, gratitude, well wishes, and resources was beautiful to me. They all deserved to be celebrated; listening to the accomplishments of these young men would have anyone agreeing. I’m grateful Ayo invited me as a guest at his table; the scholarship he provided to one of the beaus was so well received. I have to slide in that the food was amazing and the decor was spectacular. It was my first time attending, but I would surely go again. I constructed my dress in less than 48 hours and tailored his tux, added strip detailing on both jacket and pants while paying attention to the fit and altering that as well. Check us out below.

Ayo is a serial entrepreneur and if you would like to tap into what he is doing the community services he offers check out his website and instagram below 👇🏾

Attending 2 major events before the month has ended is out of the norm for me. I’m grateful that I was made “uncomfortable” or else I would not have been able to make the connections I did over these past 2 weeks. In the midst of preparing the looks for both I was also still working on prom looks, prepping for a podcast appearance, and throwing my own annual celebration for April 20th ( the link will inform you more of 420 https://www.afancyvibe.com/post/let-s-get-into-april-20th ). Honestly this month has been filled with expansion and understanding that it really does take more than self to accomplish most goals. Im not gonna mull over the other things I’ve tapped into without providing just a smidge of insight into the details.

I was able to complete this somewhat difficult prom dress and they looked amazing....

On April 20th or 420 I have an annual gathering and this year was filled with nothing but love and reconnections. Everything edible was infused with cannabis and we had a lifted blast. I included short video because I didn't take much while everyone was in attendance. I like to enjoy what's in front of me.

Lastly I want to introduce or remind anyone in the Lafayette area of an amazing artistic space and studio named Parc Village. It's black owned and caters to our community despite being somewhat overlooked by a few. Y'all the art showcase was so dope. I was informed that the exhibitions change throughout the year and highlight local talents that are based in Louisiana. I've included location information below and the website so that you can check out what is upcoming!

The month is coming to an end and in this area it is festival time! Day 2 of 5 at this point. The Festival International de Louisiane is an annual music and arts festival held in Lafayette, Louisiana celebrating the French heritage of the region and its connection to the Francophone world. You can expect a really nice time filled with activities for all ages. Below I have the included the schedule for this year, check it out .

The local news station has a page dedicated to keeping the community updated with some of the things going on. I have included the link below if you wanted to stay ahead in upcoming events.

Thank you for the time 🫶🏾 hope the rest of this month is good to you.
